The Tyrant in Winter

We talk about “interactive fiction” as something that empowers the audience.  I have been lucky enough to experience just how incredible the collaboration between writer and audience can be; but the fact is, the power we give to the audience is taken from the storyteller.

Every author or director is a tyrant in winter.  The times have changed; we must sign this power-sharing agreement, this new Magna Carta, or perish.  But it isn’t clear, exactly, how the new world will work.
